10 Android phones under 15k

Micromax Andro A60 - Rs.6584

Android 2.2

The Micromax Andro is an odd looking device. What makes it interesting is its price of Rs.6584, Android 2.2 and a 3.2 MP camera.

Yes, its cheap and the specs sound good – but the device leaves a lot to be desired in performance. You may want to consider the Spice Mi-300 or the LG Optimus One while making a decision.

Spice Mi-310 - Rs.7499

Android 2.2

The Spice Mi-310 is an interesting little Android device. It has a 600Mhz processor, a 2MP camera that shoots HD Video, runs Android 2.2 Froyo and has a screen with HD playback capabilities. At the price of Rs 7499, what else can one ask for? A must buy if you are on a tight budget..

Videocon Zeus Evolve V7500 - Rs. 10999

Android 1.6

The Videocon Zeus Evolve is another locally produced Android device. Though it has pretty run-of-the-mill features, with its 600Mhz processor, 5MP camera and Android 1.6 OS; the interesting bit is what comes in the sales package. You get a car charger, 8GB memory card, and an extra battery. The OS is also upgradable to Android 2.1. At its price point it's a very appealing device.

Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 - Rs.10359

Android 2.2

The Galaxy Fit provides a combination of a comfortable design at an affordable price. It includes most features found in higher-end devices at a very competitive price. Just that, users will lose out on processor speed and memory. It has a 600 Mhz processor with 130 MB space for applications on the phone. It also comes bundled with a 2GB memory card for photos, videos and to install selective applications. This memory is expandable to 32 GB. Additionally it features a 5 mega-pixel camera that has some cool features like the panorama shoot mode

.LG Optimus One P500 - Rs.11382

Android 2.2

The Optimus One is a combination of slick design, the power of Android and smart pricing. The Optimus One is one of the spritely Android devices in the category and it even has an impressive feature set with includes a 600Mhz processor and generous 512MB RAM. The Optimus One also runs Android 2.2 Froyo unlike many of the Sony Ericsson devices, which are still stuck on 1.6. It also has a decent 3MP camera with face detection to boot.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini - Rs.11507

Android 2.1

The X10 Mini has a lot going for it in a tiny form factor. The 5 MP snapper with LED flash is impressive. So is the TFT scratchproof screen that looks very clear and is pretty sturdy too.

But, the screen's small size means that a QWERTY keyboard is out of the question. You get a normal T9 enabled touch screen number pad.

Buy it if you love the size. If you email or SMS a lot, you may want to look at phones with bigger screens or a hardware QWERTY keyboard – like the Motorola Charm/ Flipout or the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Pro.

Motorola Charm MB502 - Rs.11749

Android 1.6

Most Android phones are touch-only devices, but the Motorola Charm is a refreshing phone which offers a full QWERTY keyboard with a 2.8-inch 320x240 Gorilla glass touch-screen. It also features an innovative backtrack sensor that allows you to navigate the touch screen from behind the phone. It runs Android 1.6 and features a 3.2 MP camera for clicking photos.

But, all is not good. The option of the full QWERTY keyboard comes at the expense of touch-screen real estate and the available touch-screen is low-resolution too. Buy it if you want a compact phone with a QWERTY option. Do not buy if you browse the internet a lot on your phone as the small screen will limit what you can do.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 - Rs.12596

Android 1.6

The Xperia X8 boasts of features such as a 3.2 MP camera, a 3-inch touch display with a resolution 320x480 and a 600Mhz processor. Unfortunately like all Sony Ericsson phones it still runs Android 1.6, but the Timescape skin does its bit to spruce things up.

While this phone boasts of impressive build quality, the feature set does not break new ground. Sony Ericsson loyalists will love the device, but aside from that the phone does not stand out. An upgrade to Android 2.2 will help.

Samsung Galaxy 551 - Rs.12599

Android 2.2

You want to eat it all and want it to be under 15K, the Samsung Galaxy 551 could be the answer. It sports a large 3.2-inch touch-screen, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and all the goodness of Android 2.2. If the features are not enough to entice you, it comes in a collection of delicious colours too.

The only gripe could be the 600 Mhz processor, but the price-point really wins over that obstacle easily. It should work well for most regular users.

HTC Tattoo A3232 - Rs.12799

Android 1.6

The HTC Tattoo is a cute looking Android device. It boasts of features like a 3MP camera and a G-Sensor with a Digital Compass. Aside from this the device disappointed as it is still using the Android 1.6 OS. At its price point we feel should have a better features.

People looking for a cute Android phone will really like it. The compass and G-sensor would really attract adventurers but aside these features the phone does not impress much.
